Basics of Play Therapy

This introductory-level training provides mental health professionals, counselors, and educators with essential knowledge and foundational skills in the practice of play therapy. Participants will explore the theoretical underpinnings of play therapy, with emphasis on seminal theories including child-centered and directive approaches. The training will also include experiential activities and case examples to support the integration of developmentally appropriate play therapy techniques into clinical practice with children.

Through this workshop, participants will gain confidence in setting up a therapeutic playroom, selecting materials, and beginning to apply core interventions in play therapy sessions.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Define play therapy and describe its therapeutic value in supporting the mental health of children.

2. Identify key seminal theoretical approaches in play therapy, including child-centered and directive models.
